On May 28th, the first domestically manufactured Chinese aircraft, the C919, successfully completed its maiden commercial flight. The C919 boasts advanced design and technological features, including state-of-the-art avionics, efficient engines, and advanced material applications. These attributes render the C919 competitive in the commercial aviation market, offering passengers a more comfortable, secure, and energy-efficient flying experience.

Laser Processing Techniques in C919 Manufacturing

Throughout the manufacturing of the C919, laser cutting technology has been extensively employed, encompassing the fabrication of structural components such as fuselage and wing surfaces. Laser cutting, with its precision, efficiency, and non-contact advantages, enables precise cutting of intricate metal materials, ensuring components' dimensions and qualities meet design specifications.

Furthermore, laser welding technology is applied to join thin sheet materials, guaranteeing structural strength and integrity.

Of paramount significance is the laser 3D printing technology for titanium alloy components, which China has successfully developed and integrated into practical use. This technology has made significant contributions to the production of the C919 aircraft. Crucial components like the central wing spar and main windshield frame of the C919 are manufactured using 3D printing technology.

In traditional manufacturing, crafting titanium alloy spars would require 1607 kilograms of raw forgings. With 3D printing, only 136 kilograms of high-quality ingots are needed to produce superior components, and the manufacturing process is expedited.
