This winter seems to be longer and colder than the past few years and many places were hit by the severe coldness. In this circumstance, laser cutter chiller users often face such a challenge - how to prevent freezing in my chiller?

Well, take fiber laser chiller CWFL-2000 as an example. This chiller is intended for cooling 2kW fiber laser and the optics, thanks to its brilliant design of dual temperature control & dual water circuit. And it does a good job in maintaining those two parts at suitable temperature range. However in winter, ambient temperature drops down and the water easily becomes frozen. And frozen water leads to bad water flow which means the heat exchange process can not be done effectively.
To prevent freezing in laser coolers, we often suggest using antifreeze which is diluted in purified water, distilled water or deionised water. And the ideal antifreeze would be the one with ethylene glycol as the base. But please note that the concentration of ethylene glycol can not be larger than 30%, for it can cause corrosion to the internal components of the chiller. And when the weather becomes warmer, drain out the antifreeze completely and clean the chiller before adding clean purified water/distilled water/deionised water.
