UV Laser Marking PCB and Its Compact Laser Water Chiller

The common PCB laser marking machines are powered by CO2 laser and UV laser. Under same configurations,UV laser marking machine has higher precision than CO2 laser marking machine. The wavelength of UV laser is around 355nm and most of the materials can better absorb UV laser light rather than infrared light.

Nearly each piece of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) involves more or less marking technique. That is because the information printed on the PCB can realize the function of quality control tracing, automatic identification and brand promotion. These information used to be printed by traditional printing machines. But traditional printing machines use quite a lot of consumables which can easily cause pollution. And the information they print become faded as time goes by, which is not very helpful.

But for laser marking machine, those problems are not problems any more. Laser marking machine features the non-contact processing, high speed, no consumables and no pollution. It can realize very clear, precise and long lasting markings on very tiny format up to 3x3mm. Besides, since it doesn’t have direct contact, it won’t cause any damage to the PCB.

The common PCB laser marking machines are powered by CO2 laser and UV laser. Under same configurations, UV laser marking machine has higher precision than CO2 laser marking machine. The wavelength of UV laser is around 355nm and most of the materials can better absorb UV laser light rather than infrared light. In addition, CO2 laser is kind of a heat processing to realize the marking effect. Therefore, carbonization is easy to occur, which is harmful to the base materials of the PCB. On the contrary, UV laser is a “cold processing”, for it realizes marking effect by breaking the chemical bond via the UV laser light. Therefore, UV laser won’t damage the PCB.

As we know, PCB is quite small in size and marking information on it is not easy. But UV laser manages to do it in a precise way. This results from not only the unique feature of the UV laser marking machine but also the cooling system it comes with. A precise cooling system is of great importance in maintaining the temperature of the UV laser so that the UV laser can function properly in a long period of time. S&A Teyu compact chiller unit CWUL-05 is commonly used for cooling UV laser marking machine in PCB marking. This chiller features 0.2℃ temperature stability, which means the temperature fluctuation is pretty small. And small fluctuation means the laser output of the UV laser will become stable. Therefore, the marking effect can be guaranteed. In addition, CWUL-05 compact water chiller unit is quite small in size, so it doesn’t consume much of the space and can easily fit into the machine layout of the PCB laser marking machine.
