What is the advantage of glass laser cutting machine?

Comparing with traditional mechanical glass cutting technique,what is the advantage of glass laser cutting machine?

For quite a long time, people had been using different kinds of techniques for glass cutting. One of the techniques is to use some sharp and hard tools like diamond to carve a line on the surface of the glass and then add some mechanical force to tear it apart.

This technique was very useful in the past, However, as FPD is increasingly using ultra-thin base board, the drawbacks of this kind of technique begin to appear. The drawbacks include micro-cracking, small notch and post processing and so on.

For manufacturers, post processing of the glass will lead to extra time and cost. What’s more, it will also cause bad influence to the environment. For example, some scraps will occur and they are hard to clean. And in order to clean the glass in the post processing, a large amount of water will be used, which is a kind of waste.

As the glass market is having a trend in higher precision, complicated shape and ultra-thin base board, the above mentioned mechanical cutting technique is no longer suitable in the glass processing. Luckily, a new glass cutting technique was invented and that is glass laser cutting machine.

Comparing with traditional mechanical glass cutting technique, what is the advantage of glass laser cutting machine?

1.First of all, glass laser cutting machine features non-contact processing, which can greatly avoid the micro-cracking and the small notch problem.
2.Secondly, glass laser cutting machine leaves quite small residual stress, so the glass cutting edge will be much harder. This is very important. If the residual stress is too big, the glass cutting edge is easy to crack. That is too say, laser cut glass can sustain 1 to 2 times more force than the mechanical cut glass.
3.Thirdly, glass laser cutting machine requires no post processing and reduces the total process procedures. It doesn’t require a polishing machine and further cleaning, which is very friendly to the environment and can reduce a huge cost for the company;
4.Fourthly, glass laser cutting is more flexible. It can perform curve-cutting while traditional mechanical cutting can only perform linear-cutting.

Laser source is one of the most important components in laser cutting machine. And for glass laser cutting machine, laser source is often CO2 laser or UV laser. These two kinds of laser sources are both heat-generating components, so they require effective cooling to keep them in suitable temperature range. S&A Teyu offers a wide range of air cooled recirculating chillers suitable for cooling glass laser cutting machines of different laser sources with cooling capacity ranging from 0.6KW to 30KW.
