How to Store Your Water Chiller Safely During Holiday Downtime

Safely storing your water chiller during holidays: Drain cooling water before holidays to prevent freezing, scaling, and pipe damage. Empty the tank, seal inlets/outlets, and use compressed air to clear remaining water, keeping pressure below 0.6 MPa. Store the water chiller in a clean, dry area, covered to protect from dust and moisture. These steps ensure your chiller machine's smooth operation after the break.

As the long holiday approaches, proper care for your water chiller is essential to keep it in top condition and ensure smooth operations when you’re back to work. Remember to drain the water before the holiday. Here’s a quick guide from TEYU Chiller Manufacturer to help you protect your equipment during the break.

1. Drain the Cooling Water

In winter, leaving cooling water inside the water chiller can lead to freezing and pipe damage when temperatures drop below 0℃. Stagnant water can also cause scaling, clogging pipes, and reducing the performance and lifespan of the chiller machine. Even antifreeze can thicken over time, potentially affecting the pump and triggering alarms.

How to Drain Cooling Water:

① Open the drain and empty the water tank.

② Seal the high-temperature water inlet and outlet, as well as the low-temperature water inlet, with plugs (keep the filling port open).

③ Use a compressed air gun to blow through the low-temperature water outlet for approximately 80 seconds. After blowing, seal the outlet with a plug. It is recommended to attach a silicone ring to the front of the air gun to prevent air leakage during the process.

④ Repeat the process for the high-temperature water outlet, blowing for about 80 seconds, then seal it with a plug.

⑤ Blow air through the water-filling port until no water droplets remain.

⑥ Drainage finished.

Note:

1) When drying pipelines with an air gun, ensure the pressure does not exceed 0.6 MPa to prevent deformation of the Y-type filter screen.

2) Avoid using an air gun on connectors marked with yellow labels located above or beside the water inlet and outlet to prevent damage.

3) To minimize costs, collect antifreeze in a recovery container if it will be reused after the holiday period.

2. Store the Water Chiller

After cleaning and drying your chiller, store it in a safe, dry spot away from production areas. Cover it with a clean plastic or insulation bag to protect it from dust and moisture.

Taking these precautions not only reduces the risk of equipment failure but ensures you’re ready to hit the ground running after the holidays.
