Fiber laser is the most revolutionary technical breakthrough of the laser industry in the past 10 years. It has become the main industrial laser type and accounts for more than 55% in the global market. With fantastic processing quality, fiber laser has been widely used in laser welding, laser cutting, laser marking and laser cleaning, promoting the development of the whole laser industry.

China is the most important fiber laser market in the world whose market sales volume takes up about 6% of the world. China is also leading in the number of the installed fiber lasers. For pulsed fiber laser, the installed number has already exceeded 200000 units. As for continuous fiber laser, the installed number is nearly 30000 units. Foreign fiber laser manufacturers like IPG, nLight and SPI, they all take China as the most important market. 

The analysis of the development trend of fiber laser

According to the data, since fiber laser became the mainstream of the cutting application, the power of the fiber laser has become higher and higher. 

Back in 2014, laser cutting application became mainstream. The 500W fiber laser soon became the heated product in the market at that time. And then, the fiber laser power increased to 1500W very soon. 

Before 2016, the global major laser manufacturers thought that 6KW fiber laser was sufficient to meet most of the cutting need. But later, Hans YUEMING launched 8KW fiber laser cutting machine, which marks the beginning of the competition on high power fiber laser machines. 

In 2017, 10KW+ fiber laser was created. This means China entered the 10KW+ fiber laser era. Later, 20KW+ and 30KW+ fiber lasers were also launched one by one by laser manufacturers both home and abroad. It was like a competition. 

It is true that higher fiber laser power means higher processing efficiency and laser manufacturers like Raycus, MAX, JPT, IPG, nLight and SPI are all making contribution to the development of the high power fiber laser. 

But we must realize an important fact. For materials more than 40 millimeter wide, they often appear in high-end equipment and some special areas in which 10KW+ fiber laser will be used. But for most of the products in our daily life and industrial manufacturing, the laser processing need is within 20 millimeter wide and this is what 2KW-6KW fiber laser is capable of cutting. One one hand, laser machine suppliers like Trumpf, Bystronic and Mazak focus on providing laser machine with suitable laser power instead of developing high power fiber laser machine. One the other hand, the market selection indicates that 10KW+ fiber laser machine doesn’t have as many sales volume as expected. On the contrary, the sames volume of 2KW-6KW fiber laser machine has witnessed the rapid growth. Therefore, users would soon realize that the stability and the durability of the fiber laser machine are the most important thing, instead of “the higher the laser power, the better”. 

Nowadays, fiber laser power has become a pyramid like structure. On the top of the pyramid, it’s 10KW+ fiber laser and the power is becoming higher and higher. For the biggest part of the pyramid, it’s 2KW-8KW fiber laser and it has the fastest development. At the bottom of the pyramid, its’ fiber laser below 2KW.
