The difference between ultrafast laser and traditional laser

Traditional laser uses the thermal effect of the laser light to realize different kinds of processing. However,for ultrafast laser,it uses field effect to do the processing.

Laser is known as one of the most important inventions in the 20th century and also called as “the fastest knife” , “the most correct ruler” and “the brightest light”. For the time being, laser has already become part of our life, including laser cutting, laser radar, laser cosmetic instrument and so on. In processing and manufacturing area in particular, laser cutting is more superior than traditional processing.  


Traditional laser uses the thermal effect of the laser light to realize different kinds of processing. However, for ultrafast laser, it uses field effect to do the processing. This kind of processing can reach higher precision and won’t do any damage to the material surface. Therefore, it is often known as “cold processing”. 

The current market is mainly dominated by femtosecond level or picosecond level ultrafast laser. In fact, femtosecond and picosecond are time unit and they represent very short time. Therefore, the duration in which the ultrafast laser is working on the material is quite short. 

Another features of ultrafast laser is ultrahigh instant power. The instant power is so high that it can ionize the material and break the molecular bond of the material. With the above-mentioned features, ultrafast laser can not only reach ultrahigh precision, high quality and high durability. 

The current domestic trend is now heading from low end to high end. As the fantastic tool for high end micromachining, ultrafast laser is having faster development than traditional laser.
